MEMBERS, ARE YOU INTERESTED IN RUNNING FOR A BOARD SEAT?

Petitions must be submitted no earlier than January 1, 2025 and no later than 5:30 pm, Friday, January 31, 2025. Nominations must be supported by at least five members of the district.

Thank you for your participation in the election process.

Shape the Future of Your Cooperative

Joining SCEC's board allows you to make a significant impact in your community by using your unique skills and insights to influence key decisions for the cooperative. You don’t need to be an expert in electricity or business; a passion for rural Kansas and a willingness to serve and learn are what we seek. We’re looking for individuals who can represent the diverse membership we serve.

The board meets monthly and provides specialized training to help members make informed decisions. Through this training, board members gain a deeper understanding of the electric utility industry, the cooperative business model, and local economic development efforts. While staff handles daily operations, the board focuses on major choices that ensure the cooperative thrives and benefits the surrounding community.

Candidates must meet SCEC’s qualification requirements, including being a bona fide resident of the district and not having conflicts of interest. If a district has uncontested candidates, they will be elected by petition.

Elected directors will be responsible for:

- Making decisions with management to set policies and strategies.

- Overseeing business performance and compliance.

- Setting the cooperative’s mission and engaging in strategic planning.

- Monitoring and reporting on financial performance.

- Ensuring effective planning and resource adequacy.

Qualifications:
Director qualifications are cited in the cooperative’s Bylaws:

  • To be a full-time resident and member in good standing in the director district from which he or she has been nominated.
  • Cannot be employed by or financially interested in a competing enterprise or business selling energy or supplies to the cooperative.
  • Cannot have been in default on any obligations to the cooperative in the preceding 12 months.
  • Cannot be personally employed or have a spouse, parent, sibling, child or grandchild, including a step-parent, step-sibling, step-child or step-grandchild who is an employee of the cooperative.

HOW TO RUN:

Sumner-Cowley Electric Cooperative Bylaws outline the procedure by which director candidates are nominated. The Bylaws state that the nomination of candidates for director shall be by petition. To be valid, a petition shall be signed by not less than 5 members and shall be delivered to the cooperative’s office no earlier than January 1, 2025 and no later than close of business on Friday, January 31, 2025.
