YOUTH TOUR CONTEST FOR HIGH SCHOOL JUNIORS

Sumner-Cowley Electric Cooperative, Inc. would like to send two High School Juniors to Youth Tour 2007 in Washington DC or “Cooperative Youth Leadership Camp” in Steamboat Springs, CO. The applicant must be a high school junior living within the cooperative’s territorial boundaries and the child of a Sumner-Cowley Electric member.

Youth Tour 2007 will be held June 7-14, 2007 in Washington DC. This trip will include tours of Washington DC and a chance to meet with Kansas Congressman and Senators. The tours may include the White House, Supreme Court and Library of Congress. The Colorado “Youth Leadership Camp” will be held July 14-20, 2007 just outside of Steamboat Springs, CO.

Applicants must complete an application and write a 600 word essay. Please make sure that your essay is written in your own words. If you choose to use quotes from articles or information from the internet or other sources, please site this information by using footnotes or endnotes. Essays that have been plagiarized will be disqualified. The top 5 essay winners will be interviewed on March 5, 2007 at 4:00 pm. The Grand Prize will be the trip to Washington DC and the Runner-up will receive the trip to Steamboat Springs, CO. The topic of the essay is as follows:

All cooperatives adhere to seven guiding principles. Pretend you are a contestant on the TV show “The Apprecentice” and sell Donald trump on why cooperateive values are important.

Applications must be received in the Sumner-Cowley Electric Cooperative Inc. office no later than January 31, 2007. Youth Tour Winners will be announced at the cooperative’s annual meeting on April 7, 2007. We request that the applicants attend the Annual Meeting and return to share their experiences at the 2008 Annual Meeting.
