Local Youth Selected by Sumner-Cowley Electric Cooperative, Inc. to Tour Washington, D.C.

Jacob Koch will join 34 students from across Kansas to attend the 53rd Annual "Government in Action" Youth Tour in June.

Koch was selected by Sumner-Cowley Electric from a pool of high school applicants. To win this trip, students were asked to complete an application, submit a letter of recommendation and write an essay.

The Kansas delegation will join more than 1,500 high school students from across the nation on the Electric Cooperative Youth Tour. During their week-long stay in Washington, D.C., these youth will see "Government in Action." There they will meet and visit with United States Senators and Representatives, and they will tour many sites including the Capitol, Smithsonian Institute, Mt. Vernon, and the many memorials.

Cletas Rains, Chief Executive Officer, said that Sumner-Cowley Electric is proud to support the youth tour program.

"We are proud to send our youth to experience government in action," Rains said. "Our hope is that local students will gain some awareness of how our political system works and how important it is for the youth to be involved in our community."

Sumner-Cowley Electric sponsors a student for this trip each year. For more information, contact Claire Hieger.
